Since the start of Epic in 2009, we have partnered with a church in Antigua, Guatemala, Iglesia del Camino (IDC) to serve the people surrounding Antigua. The area is in the picturesque highlands of Guatemala and has a rich, Mayan heritage. Antigua is a beautiful, colonial town.
In the communities surrounding Antigua, poverty is widespread. In Guatemala, 75% of the population lives below the country’s poverty line and more than half of the population lives in extreme poverty. Guatemala experienced a 36 year civil war (1960-1996) at the end of the 20th century and still faces significant social problems.
We are partnering with IDC to bring hope through building homes, providing water filters for clean drinking water, and sharing with them the hope they can have through a personal relationship with Jesus.
Through our partnership with IDC, we are also investing deeply in El Club, a safe haven for 190 kids ages 2-19. El Club provides the kids with breakfast four days a week, spiritual training, and academic support. Check out this video from Fester Gramajo, the Director of El Club, about what our partnership means to them.
You may wonder, how I can I be a part of bringing hope?
- You can PRAY. Prayer is vital to the on-going ministry of IDC and what we do in Guatemala. Click here for a weekly prayer guide.
- You can GO. In the upcoming summer, we will be taking two teams to Guatemala. Click here for more information.
- You can GIVE. You can give towards our next home build (cost per home $2800), providing a water filter, bag of food and a Bible ($60), or El Club’s rent ($660/month). Click here to give and designate your giving through the drop-down selections.
Your investment in Guatemala is changing people’s lives. This past summer, one of our teams built a home for Carmen and her family. That week she put her faith in Christ! Two weeks later the other team followed-up with her and answered her questions about her newfound faith. Check out her story here.
